I first stumbled upon For Days when searching for a sustainable alternative to deal with all of the fabric scraps I produce when making products. Being such a small business and without a way to turn these scraps into usable products, I turned to a Zero Waste facebook group that pointed me in the right direction. That direction was For Days.

So let’s get down to the basics. What is the concept of For Days? For Days is a clothing company that accepts fabric of any shape, size or material. They then take that material, recycle it by breaking it down and producing new yarn. They take this yarn and produce new clothing items, rugs, cleaning items etc. This is a completely closed loop system, and the production of new yarn produces very little greenhouse gases and absolutely no water. It’s pretty much a perfect option when it comes to Zero Waste Fashion!

So how do you get your fabrics to For Days? You can purchase one of their ‘Take Back Bags’. Chose from 3 different sizes, they ship the Take Back Bag to you and provide a prepay shipping label. Once your fabrics are secured and ready to be shipped out, take it to your local USPS facility and they ship it right out for you. It is such a hassle free process!

But here is the catch, you do have to purchase a Take Back Bag. Each size bag is a different price point. BUT the amount you spend on a Take Back Bag goes toward what they call ‘Closet Cash’. This is a credit you then can then turn around and spend on your next For Days purchase! They offer such cute and in-style clothing pieces and also offer Men, Women, Gender Neutral pieces as well as Baby and Kids!

So, let’s review.

Pros: Closed loop system. Zero waste. VERY easy process. They have in-style clothing and wide variety clothing options, AND you get new clothes out of it!

Cons: Purchasing is required. Receiving the Take Back Bag may take about 2 weeks to get to you.
